Tampa Preparatory School has very friendly and helpful teachers for the most part. The academics are challenging but encourage deep thinking. Academics are not a joke in here but it's manageable though. The school gives you many important resources to guide you every step of the way, while still encouraging independence. Between intensive writing and lots of group discussions and in-depth conversations, I feel like this school is really preparing students academically for college and even beyond. On the other hand, extracurricular activities are less exceptional. Most clubs are a joke, except for the school service clubs. Some of the participation which I have to mention is very limited, it is simply to put on a college application and there is no real effort behind it. Sports are fine, but by no means great. School spirit is decent, but mostly just for roasting Berkeley rather than praising this school. Also, the social scene is very cliquey. While students are very friendly in most cases, when they enter their small groups, they go out of their way to exclude certain other groups. Most students can find a good group of friends though. However, the school soon begins to feel very small that dramas and gossip spread like the bubonic plague, and people get tired very quickly. Many of the students, by nature, come from very wealthy families and therefore may tend to be a little spoiled. You'll see children receive Tesla and Mercedes cars on their 16th birthday, which is certainly not bad but can inspire a rightful attitude. The admissions office seems to advertise spinning chairs and iPads as if they make the school exceptional. I suggest that, don't send your kids to the school just because of the fancy technology. At the end that has nothing to do with the success of the school. In addition, the administration also tends to cover up scandals among the staff that I won't be included. Please note that I'm being very harsh about this school. All I can say is that it was a positive high school experience and I just want to point out the negative aspects for all to know. Overall, it's an extremely expensive school with very good academics, below-average extracurricular activities, and clique-like social groups.
