Lee Academy For Gifted Education provides a stimulating environment where my children, over a total of about ten academic years for all of them, thrived. They love this school, their teachers and classmates. My children have different learning styles and strengths. And the teachers work hard to ensure that each of them is always working to their full potential. Also, the kids are accelerated to the next grade level if appropriate, at any point in the school year that it best suits the child. In addition, the teachers are amazing at determining what's going to be the best fit, grade-wise and how to make that smooth transition. They also have classes in Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies and Physical Education every day. My children have an Art and Spanish class three to four times a week and Music class two times a week. The music is also used extensively in Spanish class. Most of the kids play an instrument outside of school and in performances as well. Regularly, they also incorporate performing arts like Hispanic Heritage Day, Winter Performance, Night of the Arts, Cinco de Mayo, Spring Sing, Deep Carnivale Literature Festival, into the course of the school year. I can say that, my children are constantly stretching their minds, but also spend substantial time outdoors every day playing sports, playing creative team games, enjoying recess and lunch outdoors, getting break time as well as aftercare time outdoors. The school provides a balanced learning environment, where kids have the opportunity to learn at a high level, to get plenty of exercise and fresh air in a healthful environment, exercise their creativity, teaching them be themselves, with plenty of time outside of school, to pursue their individual interests.
Our son has been attending Lee Academy For Gifted Education for almost five years now. And he has flourished steadily since day one. The school has many unique characteristics that distinguish it from other schools. The administration understands the importance of physical and emotional health for intellectual development. They incorporates some of the best practices of European education as well. The campus is great. The kids spend plenty of structured and unstructured time outdoors. The education is precise, but productive and peaceful. Course materials are surprisingly diverse and does encourage creativity. Physical Education was offered every day and the activities are geared toward building confidence, as well as teamwork. In robotics class, they build little machines. In art, they produce, color, glaze and bake their own clay with on-site ovens. This year in lower school D which is fourth grade Science and Social Studies have been especially demanding. Also, we've been impressed by the appropriateness of the teachers of both classes in elevating the level day by day, without overwhelming our son. Our son didn't like reading or writing for a long time. But, his language art teachers did not give up. Just yesterday, he wrote his first poem and two weeks ago, he volunteered to write a five pages essay. Math has been yet another favorite and this semester we've been going to sleep while doing math games and graphs in bed. In Spanish, they don't just learn languages, they are also exposed to many cultural elements, from food to music, history to geography. I can't imagine any student forgetting what they learned in class. Homework has always been reasonable according to students needs. So, there is always time for meaningful activities. Aftercare is full of excitement too. The time is spent partly outside playing, partly inside doing homework, or in activities such as math buddies, running club, chess club, etc. And of course anywhere as there are humans, there are going to be problems. The difference in here is that, when there's a problem, you know you can sit down with Ms. Jen and fix it. That trust was very easy to built. As with everything else, children are the best testament to the quality of their education. Just walk into that school unannounced any day and observe a class or a game. You'll see that the kids there feel safe, smart, confident and happy.
We are very pleased with their academic achievement as well as their social and emotional well-being in a school where everyone is treated as family. The learning approach is more experiential than spoken, and the children are engaged in a variety of ways. Every day, there is ample of time for recess and PE, as well as just hanging out with their pals. We enjoy Lee's non-institutionalized atmosphere.
